With my immune system under attack, I finally found time to create a blog. Between sneezing, splattering the screen and reaching for tissues.

Health is very important to writers. Could Shakespeare have written sonnets if his nose was streaming?

I will share a secret recipe that is meant to remedy cold symptoms. It’s hardly literary stuff, but I’m ill.

Eaton’s Secret Spiced Tea for Stuffed Up (or Stuck Up) Writers:


  • One-inch piece of root ginger, grated
  • One cinnamon stick
  • Three cardamom pods
  • Three cloves
  • Pinch of tumeric
  • Dash of lemon juice
  • One litre of water
  • Half teaspoon of chai tea (optional)
  • Honey (optional)

Place all ingredients in a saucepan, except for the honey if using. Bring to the boil. Cover and simmer for ten minutes. Once boiled, strain the liquid and add honey to taste.

I’m on my second cup, and already both nostrils are working at full capacity.
